Our current discussion club read is Children of Blood and Bone, so when I stumbled upon this tag on WhatTheLog I knew I had to complete it. It is only fitting that I complete thiss as I am currently starting this book. Plus, I really loved these questions.
What’s a trope you’d love to see die, and one you’d love to see live, or flourish more often?
I would love to see the damsel in distress trope die. I’m tired of reading books that have a woman harmed in some way so that she can be saved by a man so that they can start a relationship. I am not fond of that narrative. That ties into the trope I would love to see flourish. I would love to see even more strong female relationships in books. Books like the Witchland series by Susan Dennard are important and far too rare.
What do you immediately connect with when it comes to a book?
Definitely the relationships between characters. Even if the plot of a story is not my favorite the relationships and character development can save a book for me.
If you could push a book on someone, what would you immediately recommend?
Ugh, this is a difficult question. Right now I would have to say it’s a tie between Six of Crows and A Long Way Down depending on the day or the person.
If your house was on fire and you could only save one book, what would it be?
How could you even ask me this question? Probably my Witchlands books that Susan Dennard signed. They are great books and the memory they have to go with them is irreplaceable.
What’s a book that had you floating on air out of happiness?
Is it sad that nothing immediately came to mind? I don’t read a lot of happy books. I’ll go with Fangirl. Simply because it was a great contemporary that I completely adored.
A book that’s made an impact on you, or the world?
The Hate U Give, A Long Way Down, and Dear Martin have all changed many people’s viewpoints and lives.
What are your favourite morally grey characters, who do you love that walks between darkness and light?
Kaz from Six of Crows. How could I choose anybody but him? He tows that line like no other.
Which book had a plot twist that you did not see coming and it made you sick with feels?
Gone Girl. I’m going to be honest, I don’t think I’ve been as surprised by a plot twist as I was with this book.

Your favourite underrated or side character?
I don’t know that I would call them underrated, but I love Nick from the Bone Season series.
