Problematic Faves Book Tag

What characters do I find problematic? How many of those do I still love? Probably too many if I’m honest. I can’t help but love a good villain. My character preferences can be pretty problematic.

A character everyone loves that you hate

This is so easy. Rowan from ToG. Eden and Caitlynn do not understand my hate of Rowan because they love him. However, I find him so painfully cheesy and boring.

A character everyone hates that you love

Along the same lines as my previous answer I love Chaol from ToG. I find him much more interesting and challenging to Celaena/Aelin. I can’t wait to see more of him.

A character who started out problematic but grew to be a better person

Khalid from The Wrath and the Dawn. I really shouldn’t be okay with his homicidal past. But, I mean at least he’s a cute serial killer right?

A character who started out good but became problematic

Megan from Steelheart. I mean that ending had me in loops.

A problematic couple that you ship (doesn’t have to be canon)

Juliette and Warner from Shatter Me. I mean all of the interactions in this series are kind of problematic. However, I love them together.

A couple everyone ships that you find problematic (doesn’t have to be canon)

Manon and Dorian. I like them both individually. However, something about them together bothers me. I think it’s the trauma they’ve both recently experienced makes them really vulnerable.

A problematic trope that you love

The “bad boy/girl with a heart of gold.” I can’t help it. I’m a sucker.

A book/TV show/movie that is problematic but you love anyway

Big Brother UK. It can be so messed up and manipulative but that’s why I love it. If you haven’t watched it you have to go watch it now. I’d suggest starting with the season from 2006. (Yes I am that crazy)

A book/TV show/movie that you hate because it’s problematic

50 shades of grey. Okay, to be fair I haven’t read the book. However, Eden forced me to watch the movie. Also, she forced me to listen to her read excepts of the book. There are just way too many issues to conquer there.

Lastly, your problematic fave

Celaena Sardothien (no not Aelin) I just can’t help but love that snark.

  1. I don’t think there are too many people in the middle when it comes to Fifty Shades of Grey. Me, I liked it. But I also really simplified it. I looked at it as almost a Beauty and the Beast type of book – basically, she saves Christian. I looked at it as a change from the basic damsel in distress of so many love stories. And yes, I think, under everything, this trilogy is a love story. Now, could I watch the movies? No, I’m not so sure I could.

Anyway, after rambling – great answers! I am a new follower of your blog and really enjoying it 🙂
