This is going to be a relatively short review. It was a short book and I didn’t hate it nor did I love it. So, a short review it is.

Let’s start with the positives. I liked the idea of the plot. I think that the author had an intriguing idea of mirroring a mystery novel in the vain of a fairy tale. I also liked the aspect of the memory of the book. However, I felt as though these two aspects of the novel worked against each other rather than with one another.

I will definitely read more of this author’s books as they come out. I think there is some great talent there. I truly enjoyed the craftsmanship of some of the paragraphs and chapters of this novel. I’m excited to see how Tucholke grows and develops as an author.

I didn’t get this book. I understood it sure. However, I didn’t understand why some things occurred in the book. Some of the plot points seemed false and unnecessary to me. That became very distracting throughout the book. Also, I really did not have a connection to any of the characters. I didn’t care about what happened to them. So, that made the desire to continue reading their stories difficult to do.

Overall, I am glad that I read this book. It definitely was not my favorite. However, it wasn’t terrible and it has made me excited to look into reading more books from this author.
